Primus is all around Les Claypool; there isn't a bit on whatsoever of their records where his bass isn't the independent focal point of the medication, with his vocals performing as a gonzo sideshow. Which isn't to turn down guitar participant Larry LaLonde or drummer Tim "Herb" Alexander whatever course credit; no drummer could thread in and around Claypool's convoluted patterns as effortlessly as Alexander, and few guitarists would volitionally forcefulness the smear away, like LaLonde does, exactly to can levy a ceaseless spiral of avant-noise. All of this means that they ar miles aside from organism another punk-funk combo care the Red Hot Chili Peppers; Claypool whitethorn smacking and pop his bass, but thither is little funk in the regular recurrence he and Alexander lay down. Instead, they're a post-punk Rush spiked with the sensitiveness and humor of Frank Zappa. Primus' songs ar secondary to showcasing their instrumental prowess. Their music is wilfully weird and experimental, however it's not alienating; the ring was capable to turn their goofy outlandishness into pop stardom. At number one, the band was purely an underground phenomenon, just in the age between their third and fourth albums, their cult grew quickly. 1991's Sailing the Seas of Cheese went gold shortly before the tone ending of Pork gun barrel Soda. By the time of the album's 1993 tone conclusion, Primus had sufficiency devoted fans to make Pork Soda debut in the Top Ten. After touring for a year -- including a headlining bit on Lollapalooza 1993 -- Claypool revived his Prawn Song record label in 1994 and released a reunion track record by Primus' original lineup under the make Sausage. In the summer of 1995, Primus released their twenty percent album, Tales From the Punch Bowl. It was some other winner, going away gold in the lead the concluding stage of the year. In the summer of 1996, Primus proclaimed they were leave-taking slipway with their drummer, Tim Alexander. He was replaced by Brian "Genius" Mantia, wHO made his debut on The Brown Album, which was released in the summer of 1997. The covers EP Rhinoplasty followed in 1998, and a year by and by on, Primus returned with Antipop. Antipop was a divergence from premature Primus albums, as dissimilar producers were secondhand on most each running (including such notables as Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello, Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst, Tom Waits, South Park creator Matt Stone, and old Police drummer Stewart Copeland) and it featured such guest artists as Metallica's James Hetfield and old Faith No More guitar player Jim Martin. After a supporting hitch clothed up in 2000, Mantia leftfield the band to get together Guns N' Roses. Claypool talked around reuniting with old drummer Tim "Herb" Alexander in the press, precisely shortly later on announced that Primus was deviation on indefinite respite. During the ensuing go against, Claypool focused on recording the debut album by his english see, Oyster Head (wHO also included Copeland and Phish guitar player Trey Anastasio), as well as releasing his two-way solo field day, Live Frogs: Set 1 and Set 2.

Alternative stone quartette Die Happy formed in Ulm, Germany, in 1993. Guitarist Thorsten Mewes, bassist Julian Rosenthal, and drummer Marcus Heinzmann auditioned a series of singers before in conclusion subsiding on Czech-born Marta Jandová. The group played its get-go alive gig in the natural spring of 1994, at mid-year recording the EP Better Than Nothing. A self-released uncut, Dirty Flowers, followed in early 1996. Drummer Holger Fiesel replaced Heinzmann prior to roger Huntington Sessions for the 1997 EP Promotion. During an visual aspect at the 1998 Rockstiftung unsigned saltation orchestra contest, Die Happy captured the attention of A&R execs from Epic/Sony, only narrow negotiations fell through and Fiesel shortly announced his way out, clearing the means for drummer Jürgen Stiehle. Rosenthal was the next to resign, and later a series of auditions, the leftover trio selected bassist Ralph Rieker. In recent 1999, this personification of Die Happy signed to BMG Ariola, and in 2001 issued their major-label debut, Supersonic Speed. Beautiful Morning followed a yr by and by, and in 2003 Die Happy traveled to Los Angeles to lead off sour with hitmaking producers The Matrix on the band's third RCA endeavour, The Weight of the Circumstances. Virtual unsung Udo Rinklin helmed the 2005 followup, Bitter to Better, although multi-platinum shlockmeister Diane Warren penned the lay "I Am." No Nuts No Glory reached the German Top 30 upon its 2006 liberation.

Ludacris, Soulja Boy Tell'em, Game, Shawty Lo And More Earn Honorable Mentions In 'Hottest MCs In The Game'

In summer 2007, the MTV News Hip-Hop Brain Trust sat down and had another controversial roundtable debate. Unlike previous discussions, the trustees devised a list of not the greatest ever, but the Hottest MCs in the Game right then. The rankings were based on lyrics, flow, impact on the game, success and swagger. The roundtable recently reconvened and came up with a brand-new list of Hottest MCs. Our experts used the same criteria, but only judged on the past year of hip-hop — check out the full show!

Honorable Mentions

These guys may not have made the top 10 "Hottest MCs" list for one reason or another, but they have impacted the game during the past several months. And while everyone's goal is to make it to the roundtable's controversial ranking board, an HM is nothing to sneeze at. Just ask Lupe Fiasco, who told us he was so hurt by not getting a mention last year that he wanted nothing to do with this year's list. (We named him #7 anyway.)

Soulja Boy Tell'em

He gets criticized often because of his lyrical deficiency, but somebody is buying into Soulja Boy. The 17-year-old's shows stay packed, his album is platinum, and he's sold well over 3 million ringtone downloads. "Crank That" triumphed not only as a single, but as a worldwide dance phenomenon. What other rapper do you know that could make your grandma — no, bump that — make Denzel Washington lose his Frank Lucas cool and start doing the "Superman"? Adolescents approved his follow-ups, "Yahhh!" and "Soulja Girl," which ensured that he won't be considered a one-hit boy wonder, at least not by anyone under age 20.

Shawty Lo

He's got so much swag, you have to give him his own set at the club right now. The original was crazy; the remix was the best of the year. Shawty Lo's "Dey Know" made him an automatic street favorite from Bankhead to Brooklyn. Following up with "Dunn Dunn" and "Foolish," he showed his mastery of street anthems. While Lo has had no problem making the dance floor quiver, we're still waiting to see how he holds up in his brewing feud with the battle-tested T.I.

The Game

Audacious and awesome, the Game is a perennial top 10 ... that is, when he puts out material. The Compton slayer has been relatively inactive since placing #3 on the 2007 list. If "Pain," a tremendous homage to his hip-hop heroes, would have been out a little sooner, his name certainly would have been argued as a "Hottest" must-have.

Webbie

Don't put too much thought into it. Get dressed, go to the club and dance to Webbie. He has one of the most entertaining movements going right now with Lil' Boosie and their Trill Fam, and they're doing it on their own. "Independent" was huge, and Web's Savage Life 2 sold close to 100,000 copies in the first week without being a cog in a major-label machine.

Fabolous

Fabolous narrowly missed being in the top 10 again. It's not for lack of lyrics though. He's been wingtip-sharp on a myriad of guest spots from Red Cafe's "Paper Touchin" remix (the references to "The Wire" are insane) to DJ Felli Fel's "Finer Things."

Flo Rida

It's funny how all those comparisons to Nelly died down once "Low" started making history. The song set the record for the most downloads in one week, and Flo became the first hip-hop artist to have a debut single go #1 on the charts. Now we know he can make a hit; the big test is if he'll have longevity too.

Plies

It looks like Plies is going to have special career. He has something that's better than lyrics, better than swag: He's felt! The Florida native's pragmatic presence has translated into a swell of underground support. With the "Bust It Baby" remix taking off commercially, his long-deserved breakthrough is on the horizon.

Ludacris

Cris will make the top 10 of the "Hottest MCs" list. It's inevitable. Somewhere down the line, a guy as talented as Luda has to be ranked as the Hottest in the Game. Since 2007, he's done cameos for Shawty Lo, Gucci Mane, DJ Khaled and Gucci Mane among others. If you asked members of the Brain Trust, plenty are betting that his upcoming Theater of the Mind, solidifies his spot in the next set of top 10s.

Fat Joe

Elephant in the Room was one of his most consistent LPs, and Joey Crack even started to spread his wings internationally. Not to mention the fact that Coca Baby was able to stand up to 50 Cent in a heated Internet beef. For a while, it looked like Joe just might be able to work his way into the top 10, but it was way to long of a lull between the peak of his first single "I Won't Tell" peak and the release of a second, "You Ain't Sayin' Nothin'."

Joe Budden

Joey Jump-Off has possibly the best mixtape of the year thus far with Mood Muzik III. And though Budden has kept fans waiting for years for his next official LP, his MM series has kept his name in the back of everyone's mind when they think of the best pure wordsmiths.

Rocko

He did him, all right. "Umma Do Me" introduced Rocko to the masses with one of the most soil-rich themes of the year. The Brain Trust needs to hear a little more before they place him among the elite, however.

Prodigy

P is making more noise behind bars than a lot of MCs who are walking free in the world. On his blog, he's done everything from critique his peers to blast the government and police in the wake of the Sean Bell murder trial. For a guy who people said was done, he still knows how to pique interest — maybe not 50 Cent's or Jay-Z's level of interest, but Prodigy has had a swell of support. H.N.I.C. Pt. 2 is a near classic, though it's still undiscovered by many.

Gucci Mane

Gucci is a classic example of an overachiever. He's not known for having the best lyrics, or even the best swag, but he is making the most of what he has. Anthems such as "16 Fever" and "I Might Be" keep coming. And while he may never hit super-mainstream stardom, Gucci seems content to be lauded in the 'hood.

Styles P

S.P., we love you to death, but you didn't capitalize on your last album as you should have. Super Gangster (Extraordinary Gentleman) was one of the best solo LPs to come from the D-Block family, and definitely the best of the Ghost's career, but there was no follow-up to the street-heater "Blow Your Mind." "Alone in the Street," "Let's Go" or even "Holiday" could have all been well-received singles and videos, but nada.

Bun B

You can't talk about a "Hottest" list without at least bringing this Texas legend's name up in the conversation. Bun is Bun, a timeless spitter who has always been able to maintain respect and fan devotion, no matter what the musical climate is. We cried with him when he lost his longtime partner Pimp , and now we're applauding him as he carries on with his life and career.

Now that you've checked out our "Hottest MCs in the Game" show, we want to know what MCs you're feeling! Keep the debate rolling by submitting your own top-10 list below or heading to YouRHere.MTV.com to upload your video reaction. And the hotness continues: You can check in on last year's top 10 and see this year's complete list on our "Hottest MCs" page.

Patrick Swayze - Swayze Responding Well To Cancer Treatment

Patrick Swayze has stressed that his treatment for pancreatic cancer is still progressing well.

The 55-year-old actor was diagnosed with the disease in March with initial tabloid reports suggesting he had just weeks to live.

However, his physician Dr George Fisher immediately dismissed the rumours and said last month that the Dirty Dancing star has shown an "excellent" response to the treatment.

And in a statement issued to People magazine, Swayze said his response to his treatment at the Stanford University Medical Centre in northern California has been extremely positive.

He and wife Lisa Niemi have been able to regularly travel "back and forth" between their Los Angeles home and ranch in New Mexico as well as visiting friends in Reno, Arizona for Niemi's birthday.

"I took her jewellery shopping at Kenny G & Company and [we] were able to find her something really special and much deserved!" he added.

"In the meantime, I am continuing treatment at Stanford and the great news is I continue to respond well."

After rising to fame as the hip-swaying Johnny Castle in Dirty Dancing in 1987, Swayze went on to star opposite Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg in Ghost before appearing in a host of films including Point Break and Donnie Darko.

Paul McCartney Receives Honorary Doctorate

Paul McCartney [ tickets ] was awarded an honorary Doctor of Music degree yesterday (5/26) during commencement ceremonies at Yale University in New Haven, CT. The university band reportedly played "Hey Jude" as the 65-year-old Beatle stepped on stage to accept his degree.During the presentation, Yale President Richard Levin used some of McCartneys lyrics in a short tribute, saying, "There is no one compares with you," taken from the song "In My Life," according to the Hartford Courant. "Here, there and everywhere," Levin continued with another reference to a Beatles tune, "You have pushed the boundaries of the familiar to create new classics. We admire your musical genius and your generous support of worthy causes." Levin credited McCartney with having awakened a generation--giving a fresh sound to rock, roll, rhythm and blues, according to a university statement.

Britney loses access to boys

Britney Spears' access to her two baby boys has been withdrawn.
A Los Angeles Superior Court judge ordered Spears' children to be placed in the sole care of her ex-husband Kevin Federline, suspending the pop star's visitation rights until "further order of the court."
A hearing has been set for 14 January which will determine how their bitter custody battle is to proceed.
The court ruling came after a dramatic 24 hours for Spears, who has rarely been out of the tabloid headlines over the past year following a string of bizarre incidents.
Last Thursday she was wheeled out of her Los Angeles mansion on a stretcher and taken to the Cedars Sinai hospital for evaluation following a three-hour custody standoff.
Spears had reportedly refused to release her children Sean Preston, two, and Jayden James, one, to Federline's bodyguard.
Video footage of the aftermath of the incident showed Spears alternately smiling and looking distraught as she was lifted into an ambulance.
Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Jason Lee said Spears was being detained and evaluated in hospital because officers had found her under the influence of an unknown substance.
Federline's lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan said he took no satisfaction for the court ruling in his client's favour.
"I am not happy about anything that has happened recently," he  told reporters. "There are no winners right now."

Sex And The City - Davis Denies Sex And The City Infighting

SEX AND THE CITY star KRISTIN DAVIS has denied reports alleging the hit TV show was marred by infighting between the four leading ladies.

Davis and her co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kim Cattrall have long been dogged by rumours they don't get on - with speculation that petty arguments about costumes and pay had divided the group.

There was even gossip that the new movie adaptation was almost shelved because of the growing rift between the actresses - in particular between Parker and Cattrall, who have both admitted to a dispute over money.

But Davis insists the four women rarely fight when working together - especially not over a trivial matter like costumes.

She tells British TV show This Morning, "If we were fighting over shoes, if we actually got into a physical altercation over shoes - we would have to be in the nut house.

"We don't fight over shoes, we don't really fight. We are four of the luckiest, overpaid women in the world - with the best job in the world. We have been together for 10 years, working together for 18 hours a day. We would never have got through this if we weren't close. We love each other."
